The assessments and evaluations of the academic programs are effectively carried out every
semester. The faculty members are responsible for setting Course Outcomes (COs) for their
courses, and to calculate the attainment of the course outcomes. The attainment of POs and PSOs
are calculated through the CO attainment of courses.
The following is the system adopted for assessment of PO & PSO.
· For every PO and PSO, both the direct and indirect methods of assessments are identified and
that will be used to measure the attainment of the outcome.
· For each of the PO, attainment level is fixed.
· The data collected through the assessment process of POs and PSOs will assure the continuous
improvement of the program.
The CO attainment is calculated based on the Continuous Assessment Test and end-semester
examination. Course Coordinator along with the Course handling faculty discusses and makes an
analysis on the CO attainment levels (1-Low, 2-medium, and 3-High) and verifies whether the
attainment is meeting the performance target fixed. POs and PSOs attainment are calculated
using the following formula as defined by NBA.
In Indirect Assessment, the survey forms are used to collect responses from the stakeholders
pertaining to POs and PSOs. The overall POs/PSOs attainment is measured by considering 80%
from Direct Assessment and 20% from indirect assessment.

Vel Tech Multi Tech Dr. Rangarajan Dr. Sakunthala Engineering College follows the curriculum and syllabus as per the regulations framed by Anna University. The curriculum and syllabus are periodically revised by Anna University with representation from various colleges and industry in order to meet the technological development, industrial and societal requirements. Apart from the regular curriculum, all the Departments concentrates on curricular related activities such as Assignments, Case studies, Group discussions, Seminars, Guest lectures, Workshops and Mini projects etc. to attain the POs, PSOs and PEOs to enhance the quality of learning process. The academic performance of students are monitored and evaluated internally by the respective departments along with examination cell of the institution and externally by Controller of Examinations, Anna University.

The Program Outcomes (POs) specified by NBA also supports Program Educational Objectives (PEOs), Vision and Mission of the Institution and the respective departments. The Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs) are framed by the respective Department Advisory Board (DAB) consisting of the Department HoD and senior faculty members of the department, which is than approved by Head of the Institution.

Program Specific Outcome defining process

The Program Outcomes (POs) supports Program Educational Objectives (PEOs), Vision and Mission of the Institution and the respective departments. The Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs) are framed by the Department Advisory Board (DAB), respective Head of the department and the senior faculty members of the department and is approved by Head of the Institution.

Curricular Gap Identification Process

The objective of teaching learning process is to map the Anna University curriculum with NBA specified POs and department specified PSOs in order to meet the industry and societal needs. The curricular gap identification process is mapped by the following process:

Step 1: Course Outcomes (COs) are defined by the respective course in charge.

Step 2: COs are mapped with POs and PSOs with High (3), Medium (2) and Low (1) rating.

Step 3: Inputs from industry, academic experts, feedback from alumni are also considered to identify the curriculum gaps along with CO – PO. PSO mapping is than approved by DAB.

Step 4: Major curricular gaps like inclusion of new subjects, laboratories, modifications in existing curriculum are informed to Board of Studies, Anna University.

Step 5: Identified minor curricular gaps are addressed through content beyond the syllabus topics and various activities such as seminars, workshops, industrial visits, internships, in-plant training, guest lecture, work shop, additional labs, power point presentation and supporting activities.

Delivery of the content beyond the syllabus for attainment of POs and PSOs.

All courses are defined with 5 or 6 Course Outcomes (COs). The COs are mapped with possible POs, PSOs with their relevance like 3- High, 2- Medium and 1– Low and it is identified by the course in charge in discussion with course coordinator. The low and unmapped POs and PSOs identified are attained by handling content beyond the syllabus topics and supporting activities which include Conferences, Industrial Training, Guest Lectures, Workshops, Seminars, Assignments, mini projects, group discussions, case studies etc.,
